Snake Plant (Dracaena) - one of our favourite houseplants!
Some know this sculptural plant as Mother-in-Law's Tongue - an upright grouping of sword-like foliage that is native to Asia and Africa and incredibly easy to grow. They are known to have a number of health benefits, including filtering indoor air, removing toxic pollutants and effective against allergies.
According to Feng Shui teachings, Snake Plants may enhance the “energy” of a space, helping to attract money, prosperity, and good energy. While snake plants have some impressive qualities, it is important to remember that they need to be located in the correct space to work their magic. The best location for snake plants is at the entrance of a house, to protect it from bad energy, improve the environment generally, and attract wealth. The plants will help to cleanse any bad energy that you bring home with you from people or places outside your house.
How to Care for Snake Plants
Snake plants require good drainage in order to avoid root rot. A few hours of light each day will help the plants grow new stems. Snake plants require little water. In fact, watering them once or twice a month is typically sufficient. Wait until the soil is completely dry before watering. Snake plants like to be root-bound and can stay in the same pot for several years, while replacing some surface soil annually. Repot once the plant is close to bursting its pot.
